Kelly is the Director of Intellectual Property at AgBiome. She joined the AgBiome team in May of 2015. Kelly is an experienced strategist and leader in corporate biotechnology intellectual property. She is a client-focused, business-savvy patent attorney with a well-established track record of working closely with scientists and business executives to develop and implement successful global patent strategies to provide vital protections for biotechnology assets in all stages of development and commercialization. Kelly’s role at AgBiome includes creating and managing effective global patent, trade secret and trademark strategies, performing intellectual property diligence, collaborating with corporate partners to develop joint patent strategies for key research alliances, advising senior decision-makers on IP risks, and identifying practical risk avoidance/mitigation solutions.
Prior to joining AgBiome, Dr. Williamson worked for 15 years as a Patent Agent in the Biotechnology and Chemical Patent Practice Group of Alston and Bird LLP, where she focused her practice in the area of intellectual property and managed all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management, and client counseling in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields.
Dr. Williamson is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Dr. Williamson received her J.D. from Campbell Law School. Kelly received her Ph.D. in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in chemistry from Grinnell College.
